Buenos Aires Weekly Event Roundup: Oct 19 – 26

Posted on October 19, 2015 by Kevin Vaughn in VISIT BUENOS AIRES

A hand picked selection of our favorite things to see, eat, listen to, dance with this week in Buenos Aires.

See An Art Show

You are probably a fan of Corona’s work without even knowing it. The French born, Buenos Aires based street artist has murals all over the city. He will be putting presenting his work at his first individual show this week at Hollywood in Cambodia (Thames 1885, Wednesday 7pm). Espacio Cabrera (Cabrera 3641) welcomes nearly 20 fashion photographers to show off their work as well as the exciting emerging fashion scene at Style (Friday, 7pm). Mostly known for his explosive punk shows, Boom Boom Kid will be presenting a new fanzine with his illustrations at Cristal at the Patio del Liceo (Av. Santa Fe 2729, Thursday 7:30).

Catch A Film

It only seems fitting to check out a film about art in a hotel full of it. Atempo Design Hotel (Arévalo 1564, Thursday 7:30pm) is a hip young hotel in the Palermo Hollywood neighborhood whose owner has filled the walls of this modern space with his Expressionist works. Once a month they will be hosting an after office meal complete with burgers, fries, drinks and a film underneath the stars on their outdoor patio. This week you can check out Big Eyes, the film about painter Margaret Keane, reserve ahead of time. Continuing with the art theme, Cineclub Dynamo will be projecting a 35mm copy of the Roman Polanski art-horror flick Repulsion at La Libre (Bolivar 646, Wednesday 9pm). Woody Allen fans rejoice, because not only has An Irrational Man gotten a wide release in local theaters but BAMA (Av. Roque Saenz Peña 1150) is wrapping up a retrospective of his work. You can check out lesser known movies like Radio Days and Broadway Danny Rose (Tuesday, 7 and 9pm) or two of his more recognized works Hannah and Her Sisters and Crimes and Misdemeanors (Wednesday, 7 and 9pm).

Hit the Dance Floor

Lace those shoes up and get ready for some funk and soul at Soul Club (Friday, midnight) the all vinyl dance party at Belgrano’s Bar Intimo (Olazabal 2367). Three djs will be tearing it up with American soul music and some funky beats from our South American brothers and sisters. For some more house and electro beats DJs Pareja will be taking over Fun Fun at Shamrock Basement (Rodriguez Peña 1220, Friday midnight). On Saturday PM Open Air is starting their fourth season of outdoor day parties with four different djs at Oasis Punta Carrasco (Av. Costanera Norte y Av. Sarmiento 3pm).

Eat Good Food

Our favorite closed door restaurant Casa Coupage has just launched their new spring menu and we’re hoping that the weather will catch up with the sentiment. The multi course tasting menu includes dishes like flounder croquettes with mango and coriander cream, lamb loin with red fruit chimichurri, and crispy sweetbreads with corn emulsion. SIGN. ME. UP. For the full spring menu, check their site.

Check Out A Concert

Lots of big local and international shows going on this week. Tomi Lebrero & Su Puchero Misterioso will be celebrating 10 years together at Caras y Caretas (Sarmiento 2037, Saturday 9pm). The La Plata based band El Mato a un Policia Motorizado will rocking out at Teatro Vorterix (Av. Federico Lacroze 3455, Friday 7pm) will be playing the first of two shows this weekend. You haven’t seen a rock show in Argentina until you’ve seen El Mato live.  Lebero will be playing music from all his albums, and we have our fingers crossed he plays ‘Al Caballo’. Niceto Club (Niceto Vega 5510) has two big international acts this week. Hip Hop heads can stop in and praise Dj Premier (Tuesday 8pm) who will be the star of Martes Indigentes and indie kids can catch a show by the psychedelic San Francisco rock band Moon Duo (Saturday 7pm).
