Buenos Aires Weekly Event Roundup: Oct 12 – 18

Posted on October 12, 2015 by Kevin Vaughn in VISIT BUENOS AIRES

A hand picked selection of our favorite things to see, eat, listen to, dance with this week in Buenos Aires.

See An Art Show

Paula Duro and Alejandro Sordi are two painters that explore similar ideas – wild color palettes, dreamy landscapes and fantastical subjects – and for the last year they have been collaborating on a series of paintings and installation pieces which will go on display on Friday at the Patio del Liceo collective arts space at La Fuerza gallery. If you are going to see an art show this week, see this one. And if you want to make an art marathon out of it, head from Patio to San Telmo to see Geometric Obsession at the MACBA. The show is a collection of geometric artwork from the American School dating back to 1965 to the present. You can also check out Retratos at multifunctional arts space MODOS (which also serves as an art store and natural food restaurant). The show brings together work from 7 different artists working around the classic theme of portraits.

Catch A Film

Art house fans should check out the film club at Archibrazo, which curates a Tuesday film series that seeks to play the most obscure films they can find. This week they will be showing Werner Herzog’s tragicomedy Stroszek, about a German man recently released from prison that decides to seek a better life in Wisconsin. The Centro Cultural de la Memoria Haroldo Conti will also be playing a Herzog film, this Friday they’ll be projecting his more well known Nosferatu. For Lynch fans, the MALBA has put together midnight showings of three of his films: Lost Highway (Thursday), Blue Velvet (Friday) and Wild at Heart (Saturday). For a series that is a little less weird, the Palais de Glace has put together a French film series every weekend through the end of the month. This week you can catch the classic Truffaut film Jules et Jim (Saturday) or the contemporary Hansen-Love film Goodbye First Love (Sunday).

Window Shop

Break the bank or blissfully admire at three different ferias this weekend in the Palermo and Belgrano areas. Puente is a small collective of creative entrepreneurs that put on the eponymous fair once a month. You can find accessories, original illustrations, handmade notebooks, furniture, jewelry and ceramics. Juntas is another monthly fair that brings together independent labels that sell clothing, shoes, and accessories as well as artwork, food and home and beauty products. Feria del Dia de la Madre is a collective of designers and independent artists with original artwork, home goods, clothing and accessories.

Eat Good Food

For the winos in the room, the Park Hyatt is bringing back another edition of one of the city’s luxurious tasting parties, la Noche de Bodegas. The  affair brings together 50 wineries for guests to taste, with swanky hors-d’oeuvres and music to fancify your Thursday night. The Kermesse Japon Made in Argentina is a monthly event that brings together Japanese cooks and artisans so that we can pig out on authentic Japanese food.

Check Out A Concert

Take your pick from a slew of indie rock concerts this weekend. On Friday Zona Sur rockers 107 Faunos will be playing at the Matienzo, or check out the album release party of punk rockers Error Positivo at nearby Podesta, or the always fun Hurricane Heart Attacks at Naranja Verde. Moon Duo will be headlining Niceto’s Festival Dune, which is dedicated to bringing San Francisco based psychedelic rock bands to Buenos Aires to play alongside local musicians. On Saturday, they will be playing alongside girl punks Las Kellies and the funk band Nairobi. The old school purists should check out Club Shake on Saturday, a party with live music and djs that exclusively spin vinyl with a Mod twist. Another dancey concert is happening at nearby La Trastienda where Chancha Via Circuito will be playing with regular collaborators Tremor and Miriam Garcia.
